1. Single jersey

Single jersey is a single layer fabric knitted with one set of needles on a single bed of a weft knitting machine while double jersey is knitted with two sets of needles on a weft knitting machine.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a 100% cotton jersey?

It is flexible and light as well as warm and insulating. Also, it is one of the best choices for t-shirts and other apparels. One of the most interesting facts of jersey fabric is that it can be made from 100% cotton or from a polyester synthetic blend; it is the knit of the fabric that makes it elegant.

Is jersey fabric stretchy?

Jersey fabric is considered a 100% cotton knit fabric or it is blended with other fibers such as rayon or polyester. Jersey fabric that is made up of cotton provides a lusty hand as there is only a minimal stretch due to the knitting process. Jersey blends knit fabric with rayon or polyester to provide a more fluid hand and auxiliary stretch. Both types of jersey knit vary in thickness from lightweight to medium weight so it is necessary to keep all these things in mind while selecting the right knit for your project like you can not choose a lightweight rayon jersey fabric for pants that need more stability and a structure that is found in a cotton jersey fabric.

What material are jerseys made of?

Jersey is made of 100% polyester woven fabric that is shiny.

Why Is Flannel Fabric the Best Choice for Customers?

Here are the best cleaning methods for washing flannel fabric shirts, blankets, sheets etc. If you are using a Flannel fabric for babies, it is going to give your baby something with a soft feel and help create a comfort zone.

Types of Flannel Fabrics

Some of the 6 best types of flannel fabrics include:

Baby Flannel:

Baby flannel is used for baby clothes and mostly blankets. This flannel is 100% cotton and also it is incredibly soft to protect your baby and keep your baby skin safe.

Bocking Flannel:

It is mostly used for gaming tables. It is a cotton or woolen blend, unlike most of the other flannels

Ceylon Flannel:

Ceylon is a cotton and wool blend. Mostly shirts and sheets are made of Ceylon Flannel because it is a soft and warm fabric.

Cotton Flannel:

Cotton flannel is heavy but it’s not actually heavy when combined with other wool. When combined with other clothing layers Cotton flannel becomes a popular clothing selection for chilled weather.

Diaper Flannel:

As the name itself suggests, it is a flannel fabric that is used for making cloth diapers as both sides will be soft.

Wool Flannel:

This is the original flannel fiber that is sometimes blended with other fibers. This wool flannel is 100% warm and strong.

What you will need for Washing

1. Mild detergent

2. Fabric softener

3. Warm water

4. White vinegar

5. Dryer sheets

Top 5 Steps to Wash Flannel

1. Fill your washing machine with warm water. Precaution: Don’t use hot water to wash flannel fabric.

2. Add a mild detergent as the regular detergent may fade the flannel fabric. Strong detergents or bleach or any kind of alternatives must be avoided.

3. Try washing the flannel on the permanent press. Also, it is best to keep the water at a consistent temperature.

4. Add some fabric softener to the rinse cycle. Use white vinegar as it is considered to be a natural fabric softener. It is necessary that you reduce the amount of lint on the flannel. If you don’t want to use fabric softener in your machine then a dryer sheet must be added to the drying cycle.

5. If your machine is drying then make sure to remove the piece that is dry because over-drying can cause fabric to become weak. Drying on low can keep your fabric in a perfect condition for a long time and also prevents shrinking.

Bonus Tips and Advice

Check out these bonus tips to keep your flannel fabric soft and prevent it from shrinking.

1. Make sure to check the label while washing any flannel fabric item. If it is made of wool flannel then it needs to be specially cleaned, in a way that is only done by professional cleaners.

2. Flannel is mostly known for shrinking and in some of the cases like bed sheets, is made slightly larger than needed to allow for shrinking to occur. While buying any flannel fabric shirt, keep this all in your mind and get the right size.

3. If the flannel fabric is losing its softness then it could be a result of the softener. Try to wash it without adding a fabric softener into the water and dry it without a dryer sheet. Also, running an extra wash cycle will remove any residue that can cause the fabric to feel stiff.

4. Flannel is known for its softness as there are several different qualities of flannel. It is suggested that you must carefully choose flannel fabrics as some of them are lower grade and don’t have the same softness that a high-quality fabric has.

5. Make sure that you empty the lint trap after each load as flannel will create lint in the dryer.

6. Here are amazing tips for sewing flannel fabric:

How to Stop Flannel From Fraying

Machine Washing Tips for Flannel Fabric Sheets, Shirts and Blankets

1. Set up your washer to warm wash and warm rinse. Do not use too much hot water.

2. Before starting a process add the correct amount of detergent.

3. To make fabric softer, add fabric softener or white vinegar.

4. Add flannel and start running the wash cycle until it completes.

5. Set the machine to low dry and remove. Once it dries, hang it to reduce wrinkles.

Hand Washing Tips for Flannel Fabric Sheets, Shirts and Blankets

1. Fill a container with warm water.

2. Add the detergent and mix it with your hands or any other tool once the water level has been reached.

3. Put flannel into the container and use your hands or any tool to rotate the flannel inside the container to mix it with the soapy water.

4. Dump out water and squeeze flannel until all the water has been removed.

5. Again fill the container with warm water but this time without detergent and rinse the fabric by rotating it. When you see the flannel rinsed, remove the water and then again refill it.

6. Now add the fabric softener or white vinegar into the water.

7. Submerge flannel and leave it for 5 to 6 minutes before dumping water out.

8. After that rinse the flannel in warm water as previously done so that all the fabric has no soapy residue. Squeeze as much as possible.

9. Hang to dry and to reduce wrinkles.

5 Easy Tips to Sew Flannel Fabric

Here are the 5 best tips on which you need to focus while sewing flannel fabric.

1. Pre-shrink Before You Sew

Most of the flannels are designed with 100% cotton, it’s fabric that is notorious for shrinking a lot when washed so it is better to pre-shrink it before you sew. Maximize the shrinking process by setting the machine on hot while using both the washer and dryer.

2. Buy a Little Bit More

Normally to a ¼ yard is best for shrinkage when the fabric will undergo pre-shrinking.

3. Use Fresh Needles and Thread

Flannel can be rough on cutting tools and needles, so try to start with a fresh machine size 80/12 needle.

4. Flannel Can Be Messy Sometimes

The looser weave and brushed surface accord itself to tons of lint, especially around the sewing machine, so be certain to completely clean the bobbin circumstance and around the needle shaft of your machine after dealing with flannel.

5. Smooth-Edge Tracing Wheel for Marking

Due to the soft nature of the fabric, mark it with a smooth-edge marking tool rather than using a spoked wheel to prevent holes in the flannel fabric.

How to Reduce Stress this Holiday Season

If you think that your holidays and family gatherings are stressful then it’s time to try something new that makes your holidays an unforgettable experience for you. Make this holiday season an opportunity for you to make peace in your family, have celebrations and also put those you care the most about first. You can try these adorable tips that help you to reduce stress and enjoy the holidays more than you have in the past years.

1. Set Your Priorities

If your holidays become a time of anger and regret then it is the time to change the dynamics and try other things that make your holidays an enjoyable moment for you.

The first and foremost step should be determining what you want and what is most important to you. What are your priorities for this holiday season? If you think too much of what others want from you this holiday season then you never enjoy your holidays in a way that you want. Try to think and get ideas about what you want from the holidays. Recognize the changes that occur in your life and your family members and then adjust your expectations accordingly.

2. Planning Your Activities
Most of the common reasons of stress during holidays is being out of control. Living with normal working schedules, family members want to be shopping for gifts, sending holiday greetings, attending seasonal parties, making special foods and traveling to several places. The best way is to schedule your time to accompany your prioritized goals that will reduce your anxiety and make you feel comfortable. Manage your time by doing those things you incredibly enjoy to do and eliminate those from the list that bore you.

Save your time by creating a quick checklist of the following things to do during the holidays:

  • Shop Online

During the holiday season, there is the variety of choices of in-store offerings and even at lower prices. Shoppers get amazing deals during this holiday season. You can even buy gifts online and directly send it to your loved ones. Get delicious Christmas fabric discounts and deals.

  • Christmas Decorations

Decorate an embroidered Christmas fabric tree this Christmas Eve with colorful fabric scraps and display it with stunning lights in a bright frame to make it glow like fire. Now you can easily make your own handmade Christmas fabric tree.

Bonus Tip: You will just need a scissor to cut the material. So no excuses for any ‘non-sewers’ not to turn their hand to create a truly astonishing handmade item! Here’s a quick video to make a Christmas fabric tree.

There are many adorable things that you can make using Christmas fabric

  • Christmas Fabric Pillows

If you have boring pillow covers, then this Christmas you can easily design Christmas fabric covers for your pillow to decorate your home and make it look stunning. These are the special pillow covers for this Christmas Eve.

  • Christmas Fabric Table Runners

You can make your table look more adorable with a Christmas fabric table runner. You can also place runners on your sideboards and coffee tables.

  • Christmas Fabric Gift Bags

Now you can easily create Christmas gift bags using Christmas fabric that are reusable in any shape and size.

  • Christmas Fabric Kids Clothes

Do you want your cute kids to wear Christmas fabric clothes this Christmas Eve? Then you must try this amazing Christmas collection for your kids.

3. Try to Schedule Yourself for Parties

Parties are considered to be an integral part of the holiday season and of course a good opportunity to remember old relationships, celebrate and share a common interest. Most of the time too many parties can be time-consuming rather than enjoyable so before getting any party invitation think twice whether you want to attend or not. If your schedule is busy or you have made a decision to spend your time somewhere else, then drop a note to the host expressing your regrets and send them warm wishes for the holiday season.

4. Sharing Tasks with Everyone

In most cases, all the responsibilities for serving and preparing a holiday meal falls upon a single person of the family. As a result, these family members even at holidays spend their time between the kitchen and serving food on a table. For cooking, preparation takes a bulk of the time on a special day, thus going out to any good restaurant or ordering meals from outside is the perfect option. Another option can be simply sharing the work among your family members like someone makes salad and others bring special dishes. In the meantime the host serves the table so this will distribute the work amongst the family members and that should be the best way to alleviate the burden of all the work on a single person.

5. Control Yourself

For many people, holidays are like a year-long journey that comes once a year and as a result, we over-celebrate by drinking too much, eating too much and spending too much without thinking of the aftereffects. Setting a holiday budget is a good idea to limit all of your expenses.

6.Taking Care of Yourself

It is necessary to become physically and emotionally prepared during the holiday season. Trying to work in groups rather than working as a single entity can make you feel sleepy and run down. Also, the cells, organs, and tissues that protect us from several viruses become weaker during the winter season so traveling on crowded buses, trains and planes reveal more respiratory viruses than usual.
