FREE sewing pattern for a stylish trail bag!

So, here we have yet another free sewing pattern for all you sewing lovers!  This time, our chosen project will let you make a super wearable tote bag not only in one size, but two!  Just goes to show we really love bags, and can’t have enough of them!

This sewing project is recommended for those with an intermediate level of experience.  The original bags were made using Robert Kaufman fabrics, as shown in the pictures below.  We have added some more fabrics from our shop to help you get inspired.

Tote bags are a wonderful item to make out of pieces of beautiful fabric you still have around, waiting for the right project to come their way.  However, they are also a great reason to buy fabrics purposefully: especially, if you find the pattern a little challenging, having the perfect fabric for it will give you extra motivation to test your skills!

Please do send us pictures of your finished project, if you decide to give this a go. We love seeing what you create, and sharing it!

A Merry Pompompurin Christmas in Hong Kong!

Living in Hong Kong means you may stumble upon kawaii characters and events, even when you least expect it, and we have just found another example of this:  A giant Pompompurin about 5 meters tall is now on display at Tsuen Wan Plaza!

Did you know that this huge dog mascot is named Purin after a Japanese pudding?  The brown beret on top of his golden head resembles the caramel in a flan!  As any other retriever dog, he is very friendly, loves going out for walks, eating, napping…and hiding some of his owners’ shoes in his secret stash 🙂

Check out some delightful images of the Pompompurin display that can be explored until January 1st, 2019, taken from the All About Hong Kong facebook page.  And, of course, a few more pictures of cute Pompompurin items available in our shop!

Are you fond of dogs?  Golden retrievers are wonderful pets to have around, they are so playful and smart!  Which dog breed is your favourite?

modeS4u Stories: Rilakkuma and Friends

One of our lovely team members flexed her creative writing muscles and whipped up a fun short story about everyone’s favorite lazy bear, Rilakkuma! Enjoy the story below!

Rilakkuma and Friends

Rilakkuma was lazily lying under the warm Japanese sun. He was enjoying another afternoon in the garden doing nothing. But in the back of his mind, he knew that his lazy time alone was going to be ruined.

Right on queue, a large red water balloon engulfed him in water. Soft giggling could be heard in from a nearby tree.

A cute, white bear cub climbed down the large trunk of the tree. Her name was Korilakkuma. She was the source of the giggling.

“Got you!” she hysterically laughed.

A small, plump yellow bird came flapping out of the house.

“What is this disgrace!” he shouted, crazily flapping his wings. His name was Kiiroitori. He was a very grumpy and nosy bird, always getting into others’ business. He looked at Rilakkuma – drenched. His head slowly turned towards Korilakkuma. Korilakkuma’s smile was immediately wiped off her face.

“Explain,” Kiiroitori said in a cold voice.

“It was just a joke,” said Korilakkuma, crossing her arms and sticking out her tongue.

“Did you just stick your tongue at me, young lady?!” Kiiroitori asked in rage, his chubby yellow face turning bright red.

“Kiiroitori, just leave her alone,” Rilakkuma said in a lazy voice.

“Oh, why don’t you come here and help her out, then, Lazy Pants” Kiiroitori said in a challenging tone.

“First, give me a dumpling,” Rilakkuma plainly said, a plan forming in his head.

Kiiroitori rolled his eyes and flapped towards the basket near Rilakkuma’s lounging chair. But just as the little yellow bird was reaching for a dumpling, Rilakkuma grabbed him.

“What do you think you’re do-” Kiiroitori began, but he didn’t finish sentence. Rilakkuma had begun to tickle him.

Kiiroitori began to chuckle… Then giggle… And then burst out laughing.

“This’ll cheer him up,” Rilakkuma smiled.

“HA-HA-HA!!!” Kiiroitori laughed out loud. “STOOOP!!!” he laughed happily, tears forming in his eyes.

Rilakkuma stopped.

Kiiroitori was still giggling. “Thanks Rilakkuma!” he began happily. “That really cheered me up!”

“Gosh. I didn’t know Kiiroitori could actually smile,” Korilakkuma said, a mischievous smirk forming on the corners of her mouth.

Kiiroitori and Rilakkuma glared at Korilakkuma.

Rilakkuma mouthed Don’t, and shook his head.

Korilakkuma simply shrugged innocently.

Check out Box of Hope, a wonderful charity we just donated to!

We’re thrilled to have connected with the incredible charity, Box of Hope, here in Hong Kong. Box of Hope is a yearly charitable project that aims to collect all sorts of useful and educational goodies for children in need. Donors first gather new items like jigsaw puzzles, books for children, toothbrushes and more, then place those items in boxes and wrap them up. Donors then leave the boxes at one of many drop-off points around the city. Those boxes are then collected by the charity and given to underprivileged children. We donated boxes of goodies containing stationery and slime, to this awesome charity directly, as we know the stationery will be super useful for kids at school, and slime is really fun to play with. Box of Hope also operates in a number of other places in Asia, such as China, Vietnam, Cambodia and more. Especially with the Christmas season fast approaching, it was our pleasure and honor to be able to support Box of Hope in the work they do bringing joy to children.

To learn more about Box of Hope as well as to see how you can donate to their cause, check out their website plus their Facebook page.

We hope the kids will enjoy these goodies!

Gudetama free wallpapers and 5th Anniversary!

We are celebrating lots of kawaii characters’ anniversaries this Autumn, did you notice it?  Gudetama also turned five in September, and we have come across a few great celebration images to share with you!

Gudetama may likely be the most original of Sanrio’s characters in terms of personality and attitude, and this certainly adds to its popularity.   This lazy apathetic egg yolk finds life too tough, usually makes grumpy remarks, and would rather retire into his shell or curl under a slice of bacon on pretty much every occasion, out of pure existential tiredness.

As you know, kawaii mascots of every kind are most common in Japan, where eggs are also a staple food.  Sanrio decidedly found the right combination when they created this weirdly cute food mascot!

Do take a look at some Gudetama free wallpapers here, which you will definitely enjoy if you are a Gudetama fan.  Of course, we also have great Gudetama items available in our online shop.  Which of the images below do you like best?  Tell us!

Introducing a new San-X character: Corocorocoronya!

Now, isn’t this just wonderful?   There is yet another new San-X character who recently arrived in our shop, and we are delighted to be making the introductions here!  Dear audience, meet the super cute cat with a funny name, Corocorocoronya!  Below, you will see four wonderful free wallpapers of Corocorocoronya and friends, and some other images!

Corocorocoronya is a shy, yellowish, small tabby cat who lives on a street corner.  When scared, he likes hiding in a pastry cone, right where the filling should be!  Sometimes, he wears the bread cone as a hat, and if you look carefully, you will notice the dark patch on his brow resembles a cone, too!

Corocorocoronya usually wanders around with a tiny ghost-like pet called Cream, who is said to be made of… whipped cream!  They both enjoy making sweets and bread.  He also has a good cat friend who seems to be more outgoing, Paripi-chan.  He is always using his smartphone, and prefers to stick his furry grey head into a slice of bread, instead!

There are some animals that easily make the top positions in any cuteness ranking: Cats, of course, but also rabbits, puppies, birds…do you have a favourite kawaii animal species?  Tell us which, and why!
