Halloween with Sanrio at Ocean Park Hong Kong

We just had to tell you about this awesome event that no doubt will draw most fans of kawaii things, living in Hong Kong!  This year, Sanrio has partnered with one of the largest theme parks in the city to celebrate Halloween!  In past years, Ocean Park Hong Kong has held the largest Halloween events in Asia, so we can easily imagine that this Hello-ween Fest will be lots of fun!

The popular Sanrio characters we all know so well will be there to meet visitors, and join in some activities mainly designed for kids.  Of course, they are all dressed up in exclusive Halloween costumes!  There is also a Sanrio themed restaurant, where incredibly cute and elaborate Halloween treats featuring their much loved characters will be served.

This first-ever Sanrio Halloween party at Ocean Park is already under way, and the premises are full of decorations and displays inspired by Hello Kitty, Kuromi, Gudetama, Pompompurin etc.  We found some great pictures of the event, and we simply had to share them with you! Take a look at the images below, and let us know which you liked best!

The Mid-Autumn Festival means lots of wonderful Moon Cakes!

Moon Cakes are a VERY popular treat to have during the Mid-Autumn Festival. They’re so popular in fact, that often you’ll find people ordering Moon Cakes several weeks in advance to the actual festival! Here in Hong Kong, Moon Cakes are specially created by several stores and are made to be both exciting to look at, as well as incredibly delicious. Starbucks has a Moon Cake promotion featuring gorgeous packaging, Kee Wah Bakery has stunning supreme Moon Cakes, and Häagen-Dazs offers a wide variety of ice-cream Moon Cakes. Here are 5 interesting details you may not know about this delectable delicacy:

– Moon Cakes are symbolic of family reunion

– One folk-tale suggests that Moon Cakes were used during the Yuan Dynasty as a means of sending messages between the Han people when they were planning an uprising against Mongol rule

– Some people prefer just to eat the skin (the outer layer) of Moon Cakes

– In 2014, 20 Moon Cake masters created a Moon Cake that had a diameter over 2 meters long

– During the Mid-Autumn Festival, some Moon Cakes can sell for over HK$1000

Interesting, right? You can even try to make your very own Moon Cake using this recipe from Fine Dining Lovers! We hope you all had a wonderful Mid-Autumn Festival!

Christmas lights in Hong Kong

Like every year we spotted some cute Christmas illuminations near the New Mandarin Plaza in Hong Kong. This year there are funny designs with an ice cream serving Santa Claus and a monkey hinting the upcoming Chinese Year of the Monkey. The buildings glowing in festive green and red lights are a reminder to prepare our own Xmas decoration, since Christmas is just a few weeks away!

Mid-Autumn Festival bunny lanterns in Hong Kong

Last weekend all of Hong Kong celebrated the annual Mid-Autumn Festival. We took some lovely pictures of the mid-autumn lanterns close to the city’s iconic harbor. Fittingly, this year’s theme of the lantern display at Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront were many cute rabbits under a colorful moon.
