Meet the fabric designers on modes4u: Ann Kelle

If you browse through the fabrics in our shop, it’s basically impossible NOT to see her fabrics. Because we currently carry 100 different Ann Kelle designs on modes4u.com. So it’s about time to meet the successful Robert Kaufman designer in our weekly series.

Ann Kelle

She had her first line of children’s clothing and wedding dresses when she was nine… at least she was carrying the sketches for it in her backpack. Ann Kelle’ s love for designs was already very strong at a young age. Still at first she did not pursue a creative career as an adult, but was working in politics. In 2006 she decided to fullfill her childhood dream and launched Ann Kelle designs. And man, she really can’t complain about too little success. Her fresh and bright designs immediately caught the attention of the industry. A week following her debut, her designs were being presented to Target. Today you can find her fabrics, stationery and paper good designs in lots of boutiques and stores, as well as Barnes and Noble and – as already mentioned – Target.

We are of course most interested in her collaboration with Robert Kaufman. Kelle started working with the design house in 2009 and has launched many collections already. Urban Zoologie might be one of her most well known works and is especially successful in our shop modes4u.com. We carry lots of beautiful Ann Kelle fabrics from many collections such as Metro Market, Dessert Party, Remix Slicker or Ready! Set! Go!. This year we also got lots of fabrics from her super kawaii Christmas collection Jingle.

Kelle describes her style as “simple, sweet, and sassy” and that really gets to the point. Her designs are fun, colourful and always have a clear focus. “I’m inspired by things I’ve always known and loved from my childhood, from ice cream cones to spring flowers. The inspiration from my Urban Zoologie line comes from a variety of places. One of the first animals in this collection was the whales. The inspiration from this design came from a sweater Natalie wore in the 80s show ‘Facts of Life’.”

In our shop you can find Kelle’s designs in almost every fabric category and on all materials: cotton, laminate, flannel or organic cotton. She has quite a variety to offer. Currently she is working with Robert Kaufman on adding new prints to the “Remix” collection, as well as new designs to the “Girl Friends” collection. Check out Ann Kelle’s blog if you want to see more of her designs and also examples of what you can do with them.

And be sure to check our blog in the next couple of days, because Ann Kelle is sponsoring a fabric bundle for a great giveaway! It will start very soon.
