Christmas crafts: Christmas Paper Bag Makeover

Do you also have lots of paper shopping bags at home that you always wanted to reuse? That’s great, because they make wonderful Christmas bags. In today’s Christmas craft it’s all about recycling. Because with some stripes of Washi tape you can turn paper bags into pretty and personalized Christmas bags.

For our project we used some paper bags we got at the Starbucks Coffee Shops. One of them even had a Christmas design, but we wanted to cover the logo and make them look more like Christmas bags. So we thought of a Christmas design that would work and the whole project was done within a couple of minutes.

You can also cover the handles with Washi Tapes, make name tags or combine other materials like fabric or cardboard into your designs. And as you can see you don’t even need Christmas tapes to create a Christmas look, it works with any tape. It’s a fun and fast thing to do, so start your bag makeover now with preparing a couple of bags each month to avoid the hassle in actual Christmas time.

Christmas crafts: Christmas Washi tea light candles

Today we’re starting our big Christmas crafts series. Even though the holiday is a couple of weeks away, we will present you at least one crafting idea per week now. You can collect them for later or already start crafting. The sooner you start with your preparations the more relaxing the actual Christmas time will be for you. Also don’t forget that shipping from our shop takes between 5 and 15 business days so we really recommend ordering early.

Our first project is a super easy and not too christmassy DIY: Washi tea light candles. It’s finished within minutes and looks great. Just grab some regular tea lights and stick a piece of colorful Masking Tape around it. All tapes with a width of 1.5cm / 0.5″ fit perfectly, you don’t even have to cut off anything. It immediately turns your tea lights into a festive decoration. It’s really up to you how christmassy you want it to be. You can use actual Christmas Washi tapes for decoration or also start with more subtle patterns or single-colored tapes that fit well to autumn or winter.

Santa Claus on summer vacation

It’s August, so it’s time for summer holidays, sunshine, ice cream and beaches. But what do you think Santa Claus is doing now? Most people probably don’t want to think about Christmas yet, but we think it would be funny if he was somewhere on a beach right now enjoying a nice time off like depicted in the funny Surfin’ Santa fabric by Alexander Henry.

10 days until Christmas

Less than two weeks until Christmas Day. If you still need to get Christmas presents, write Christmas cards and prepare festive decoration it might be a very stressful time for you. Luckily our decoration tips with Washi Tape – our favourite Christmas crafting product of the year – will only take some minutes.

1. Washi Gift Wrapping

Just put some stripes of tape on single-coloured paper or even the blank gift box and you’re done. You’ve crafted a unique gift wrapping and it will just take you a few minutes.

2. Washi Wall Decoration

We have tried it for the first time this year and love it! We stuck a Christmas tree with different Washi Tapes on one of the white walls in our office. It’s fun, easy and can be removed without any traces.

3. Washi Christmas Tree Balls

We have seen quite a few Washi Christmas Tree balls on different blogs and totally love the idea of embellishing transparent or single-coloured Christmas tree ornaments with Masking Tape.

4. Washi Window Decoration

Masking Tape is also great for creating fun Christmas window decorations. As it is super thin rice paper it looks very pretty when the light falls through it.

We’re crafting a Washi Christmas Tree

It was about time to give our new office a Christmas look. And as we have quite a few white walls here, we decided to embellish them our own way: With Washi Tapes. Now we have a wonderful Masking Tape Christmas tree in our office and everybody participated in making it. It was very easy to do and lots of fun. All of us made at least one Christmas tree ornament and could design it any way he or she wanted.

So how to do it?

Make the outline of a tree with Masking Tape. You can try to make the shape of a real fir tree, or you go for the easy triangle version as we did. The outer line of our tree also consists of two tape layers, we chose one light green and one darker green tape. For the Christmas tree balls we just cut out circles of paper and decorated them with all kinds of Masking Tape. Then we stuck them on the tree and voila: done.

After Christmas we can just remove it without leaving any traces on the wall. We also adjusted the tape several times when making the outline, as we were not that satisfied with the shape. Washi tape just rocks!
