International Quilt Market: general impressions

This is the last part of our little series about the Spring Quilt Market we visited earlier this year. After we’ve shown you pictures of the booths of our suppliers already we close with some general impressions of the trade show. There were so many beautiful exhibition booths and eye candy to discover everywhere that we could have taken pictures forever.

Ideas on how to use Hello Tokyo fabrics by Robert Kaufman

A couple of days ago we added fabrics from the super cute Hello Tokyo collection by Robert Kaufman to our shop. While browsing the web we found some incredible pictures on what to use those fabrics for. We saw these photos on the blog The Red Thread written by Lisa Tilse. Lisa designed the collection for Robert Kaufman and showed really great examples of what to do with the Hello Tokyo fabrics. We’re totally in love with all those adorable cushions which you can sew with the big Kokeshi doll fabric. How do you like these ideas?

Japan Hobby Show Part 4: Kokka fabrics booth

While visiting the Japan Hobby Show in Tokyo we also visited some of our suppliers who had booths on the tradeshow. As fabrics and sewing played an important role there, the Japanese fabric manufacturer Kokka couldn’t be missing of course. We really enjoyed the Kokka booth, they had lots of different sections with designer fabrics by Etsuko Furuya, Melody Miller or Ellen Lucket Baker. You could see lots and lots of beautiful things made with the fabrics, mainly bags and clothes. But boy, they surely looked amazing.

What customers make with our fabrics: echino bags

Again we spotted wonderful things that some of our customers made with our fabrics. After we already introduced you to the cute boy’s shirt Caroline from the Sew Can She blog sewed, she now also made a beautiful handbag from our echino fabric. The combination with the real leather handle is perfect, it is an absolute astonishing piece.

The French designer Les Bêtes de Céline showed us a couple of weeks ago a picture of how she was working on a shoulder bag with our echino laminate fabrics. Now she finished the bag and we totally love it. She combined two echino laminates by Kokka, so the bag is waterproof. It’s absolutely lovely!

What customers make with our fabrics: apron & tote

We’re always super happy when our customers show us what they’ve made with our products by posting pictures on our Facebook page or sending us emails. Lately we saw two super adorable projects we also want to show you.

One of our Spanish customers makes incredible aprons with our fabrics. We have already seen quite a few as she makes so many different ones. Lately the pink and black apron for which she used our Timeless Treasures sweets fabric caught our attention. We totally love the colour combination and think that the design look beautiful.

A German customer sewed a wonderful tote bag from our Robert Kaufman Sushi fabric. It’s a super funny idea and the bag will definitely attract a lot of attention.

Our favourite product of the week: Glow in the dark Halloween fabric

Clearly our favourite product of the week: the Timeless Treasures glow in the dark spiderwebs fabric. Why? Because it glows in the dark. Really! The spiderwebs have a glow in the dark pattern that can absorb light, so that you see it even in the dark. Isn’t it the perfect Halloween fabric for costumes and decoration with a spooky effect?

New in our shop: Alexander Henry fabrics

You might have noticed some of the funky new designs in our fabric section already. We now carry Alexander Henry fabrics in our shop and love the new designs. Until now we mainly added Christmas fabrics, but many more will follow in the next weeks. One of our favourites already is the kawaii Kokeshi doll fabric that we ordered in different colours.

The textile design house Alexander Henry is situated in California, USA, and has been in the fabric business for more than 30 years. They make cutting-edge cotton prints and each pattern is still painted by hand. Their fabrics are made in Japan, so they really stand for high quality. They say themselves that their designs are inspired by art history, runway fashion and the culture at large, which we think really shows in their prints, e.g. their big pin-up series that’s clearly inspired by the 50s. How do you like them?
