World in Colours Mid-Autumn Lanterns in Hong Kong

It’s time for lanterns and mooncakes again. The Mid-Autumn Festival is coming up in Hong Kong and you can find beautiful lantern installations throughout the city. We already visited the World in Colours display in the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza in Tsim Sha Tsui. The lanterns show people from all around the world. Even though it is quite stereotypical and sometimes also political incorrect the lanterns still look pretty.

There are lots of T-Shirts, crop tops and light jackets that are perfect for working out. So it’s no surprise that Stephanie Au and Ng Ka Fung – two Hong Kong athletes – are involved in the advertising campaign.

There are also Pop-up stores in Hong Kong that are dedicated to this collection. How do you like it? We really love the simple but classic Hello Kitty designs.

1600 Pandas World Tour in Hong Kong

In the last weeks 1600 pandas invaded Hong Kong. They are part of the 1600 panda world tour, that was launched in 2008 by the WWF. There are only 1600 pandas left in the wild, which is why French artist Paulo Grangeon made exactly that number of pandas from paper mache. His pandas have been on quite a tour already, there were exhibitions in France, the Netherlands, Italy, Switzerland, Germany and Taiwan. Between June 9th and July 17th the cute animals can be found at various locations in Hong Kong. They already “visited” 10 important landmarks like the Clock Tower, the Tsim Sha Tsui Waterfront, the Big Buddha, Ocean Park, they rode the famous Star Ferry and the Hong Kong tram and lots more. Currently they can be found at PMQ in an exhibition.

Aren’t these pictures amazing? They can all be found on the 1600 panda Facebook site.

Hello Kitty Le petit Cafe in Hong Kong

At the end of last year a small Hello Kitty cafe opened in Hong Kong and now we finally checked it out. The Hello Kitty Le petit Cafe is part of the big department store SoGo in Causeway Bay and located on the food level right next to a supermarket and other food stalls. It is just for take-away, there is no opportunity to sit down, but there is a little corner where you can stand and enjoy your Hello Kitty treats. Of course the whole interior is decorated in Hello Kitty style.

The desserts look really lovely, there are biscuits, macarons, coffee, Frozen Yoghurt and even Hello Kitty coffee. It’s all pretty pricy, but it looks adorable. We decided to get a couple of macarons in different flavours. We went for pistachio, raspberry, cashew nut, lemon and orange. It was a sweet delight!

Hello Kitty ramen store in Hong Kong

The restaurant Ramen Iroha in Hong Kong is currently THE place to be for all Hello Kitty lovers. The restaurant transformed into a Hello Kitty heaven, everything is decorated with Hello Kitty, even the whole shop front in Causeway Bay. The promotion started on April 24th and will last for 3 months. During this time all the Japanese Ramen noodle soups come with a special Hello Kitty seaweed, but there is also a special new flavour with salty shrimp soup.

We haven’t been there ourselves but found these amazing pictures in an article on U-Travel Hong Kong. Hopefully we’ll have a chance to go, because as you see on the last picture there are longs lines in front of the shop. Lots of people want to enjoy the Hello Kitty decor with some delicious noodle soup. If you add 140 HKD during your visit you can also get the kawaii red Hello Kitty ramen bowl or the cool red Hello Kitty tote bag.

Hello Kitty 40th Anniversary exhibition in Hong Kong

There is another super cool Hello Kitty exhibition in Hong Kong at the moment. Windsor House shopping mall in Causeway Bay opened the Windsor House x Hello Kitty’s 40th Anniversary exhibition at the beginning of April. Unfortunately we can’t visit this event ourselves, but we spotted some great pictures on U-Tavel Hong Kong, where you can also find more impressions. Go on a journey through time and see how Hello Kitty developed over the decades. Super kawaii.

Panda-a-Panda lantern exhibition in Hong Kong mall apm

In the Hong Kong shopping mall apm we found a cool exhibition combining a Hong Kong character with Chinese tradition. In the apm x Panda-a-Panda lantern exhibition the Hong Kong character Panda-a-Panda and his friends – a bunny and a lion – become beautiful lanterns. Clearly this theme is inspired by the Mid-Autumn festival, which we just celebrated here and which is all about lanterns (check our our Mid-Autumn Festival blog post). We totally like it, the choice of colours and patterns of the lanterns looks really pretty.

Beautiful Lantern Carnival for Mid-Autumn Festival in Hong Kong

We just celebrated Mid-Autumn Festival here in Hong Kong, a wonderful harvest festival with lots of beautiful lantern installations all around the city. In Victoria Park there is a Lantern Wonderland every year which is really huge and impressive. But we also spotted beautiful lanterns at the harbour front of Tsim Sha Tsui. The theme of the little exhibition was ‘Home Sweet home’ and depicted typical situations of family life in Hong Kong like having a BBQ, eating Dim Sum, reading out to the children etc.

The lantern exhibition at Victoria Park revolved around the topic of food in Hong Kong. There were lots of funny lanterns depicting the favourite snacks and dishes of Hong Kongers, but also other themes could be found like a little animal love zoo or the ‘Rising Moon’, which was the centerpiece of this year’s exhibition. It was 10 meters high and made from 7,000 recycled plastic bottles lit with LED lights
