We received a lovely new collection, which is the latest design by Ellen Luckett Baker for Kokka. In Framework it’s all about geometrical patterns on a strong canvas fabric. We carry the designs Daisy Chain, steps and corners.
We have many beautiful new Kokka fabrics from Japan. Most of them are oxford fabrics, but there are also some super delicate gauze fabrics and our first ever Kokka flannel fabric. We really like the England designs that Kokka has been releasing lately. Check out the fabrics with London buses, Queen’s guards or teapots. We also received many designs that have gold metallic decorations, for example with apples or cherry blossoms.
And there is also news from echino: We now carry the pretty cotton sateen collection as cotton sateen laminates.
In the current issue of the big German sewing magazine burda style we are featured in two different categories. Our Kokka windows fabric was named fabric of the month and sold out within 24 hours after the magazine was published. But our fabrics were also used in an adorable series about spring rain clothes, for example for sewing some cute children’s shorts with our organic birch polka dot fabric.
Kokka showed some really beautiful examples of what you can sew with their fabrics at the Spring Quilt Market in the USA. As we carry most of the echino fabrics, Melody Miller fabrics and Ellen Lucket Baker fabrics they displayed on the trade show we took lots of pictures of how the fabrics were used for different sewing projects. You could see many bags sewed with echino fabrics, we loved especially the ones made with the echino rhino fabrics. Collections like echino rhythm and echino twin were great designs for making bags as well. As the fabrics have lots of different patterns which are arranged in stripes, they create a stunning patchwork look.
We also loved the dress, bags and cushions that were made with Ellen Lucket Baker’s citrus tree fabric or the little canvas flower fabrics. And Melody Miller’s retro prints just look amazing on home decor.
At an important textile trade show like the Spring Quilt Market you meet manufacturers from all around the world. So it was no surprise that we also visited the booths of our Japanese partners Kokka and Cosmo. Kokka had a beautiful booth full of echino fabrics, but they also presented their collections by Melody Miller and Ellen Lucket Baker.
In the USA Cosmo is known as Quilt Gate, so we found them at the Quilt Gate booth where they presented wonderful quilting fabrics.
On the Spring Quilt Market we also got to know the little Hawaiian label Trans-Pacific Textiles. They are not based in Japan but employ several Japanese designers which create the most amazing Anime fabrics for them. We already carry them in our shop, be sure to have a look.
While visiting the Japan Hobby Show in Tokyo we also visited some of our suppliers who had booths on the tradeshow. As fabrics and sewing played an important role there, the Japanese fabric manufacturer Kokka couldn’t be missing of course. We really enjoyed the Kokka booth, they had lots of different sections with designer fabrics by Etsuko Furuya, Melody Miller or Ellen Lucket Baker. You could see lots and lots of beautiful things made with the fabrics, mainly bags and clothes. But boy, they surely looked amazing.
Again we spotted wonderful things that some of our customers made with our fabrics. After we already introduced you to the cute boy’s shirt Caroline from the Sew Can She blog sewed, she now also made a beautiful handbag from our echino fabric. The combination with the real leather handle is perfect, it is an absolute astonishing piece.
The French designer Les Bêtes de Céline showed us a couple of weeks ago a picture of how she was working on a shoulder bag with our echino laminate fabrics. Now she finished the bag and we totally love it. She combined two echino laminates by Kokka, so the bag is waterproof. It’s absolutely lovely!
We have so many fabrics with Asian designs or typical symbols that we wanted to group them in a new fabric category in our shop. From now on you can select the category “Asia Fabrics” in our online shop and find lots of fabrics with Chinese characters, geishas, Kokeshi dolls, lucky cats and other Asian designs. Lots of fabrics in this section are from the Japanese labels Kokka and Cosmo, but you can also find brands like Alexander Henry, Timeless Treasures or Robert Kaufman from the USA.
What a great outfit! Our customer Caroline from the Blog Sew Can She showed us what wonderful boys’ clothes you can make from our fabrics. She took two of our cars fabrics from Kokka and sewed an incredible shirt for her son. He seems to like it as much as we do, at least he looks quite happy, very comfortable and active wearing the shirt. Great Job, Caroline.
It’s such a pleasure to see what customers make from our products, so keep showing us the results of your creativity.
