Tokyo Trip: Visiting Kokka

On a recent trip to Tokyo, modeS4u’s Managing Director (Sandra) and IT Manager (Alan), stopped by the brand new office of one of our amazing suppliers, Kokka. This supplier is well known for their incredibly creative and high quality designs and their new office featured row upon row of stunning fabrics. From floral fabrics, to Echino designs, their office was awash with magnificent colors.

Talking business and checking fabrics can really work up an appetite, so the team at Kokka then took Sandra and Alan out for dinner where they all dined on world famous Wagyu beef!

Check out some of the colorful pictures here!

modeS4u visits the Quilt Festival in Tokyo

Earlier this year, Sandra Boch (Managing Director of modeS4U) and Alan Mak (IT Manager) visited the Quilt Market in Tokyo and there were just so many stunning Japanese fabrics stitched into some truly incredible projects, such as quilts, toys, displays and much more. From designs featuring gorgeous floral fabrics, to those using vibrant patterned fabric, there were many inspirational projects as far as the eye could see. Which of these projects do you like the most?

Our visit to Japan Hobby Show 2015: Part 2

When we went to the Japan Hobby Show in Tokyo earlier this year we saw lots of new stationery and decoration we really loved. We will certainly think about getting some of the articles that we don’t carry in our shop yet. Again and again we were stunned by the attention to detail with which the creators care about even the tiniest features of their little pieces of art. Especially the clay decoration we discovered looked so sensationally realistic, it was hard to believe that those were fake sweets. With so many spectacular designs to look at, it’s no wonder it made our mouth water for more of these incredible DIYs.

Our visit to the Japan Hobby Show 2015 Part 1

This year a part of our team went to Tokyo again to visit the Japan Hobby Show, a great exhibition with lots of crafts products, fabrics and stationery and much more. We were very impressed by the amount of new designs and ideas of the exhibitors. We especially like about this tradeshow that it is always open to the public with lots of opportunity to try out a variety of hobby products and new equipment to learn different techniques etc. As per usual we took too many pictures to show them all, but we like to share some of our favorite and most memorable impressions with you guys.

Japan Hobby Show Part 8: clay sweets

This is the last part of our big blog series about the Japan Hobby Show in Tokyo that we visited earlier this year. But the grand finale is definitely worth having a look, because it is all about clay sweets. The clay decoration we discovered at the trade show was really spectacular and made your mouth water. It looked so realistic, it was hard to believe that those were fake sweets.

Japan Hobby Show Part 7: crochet work

You have almost seen everything that we discovered on the Japan Hobby Show. But not quite everything. We definitely wanted to show you all the cute crochet work that we spotted on the trade show in Tokyo. Crocheting sometimes still has a certain “granny attitude”, but when you see all the kawaii stuff you can make with this technique, it will change your mind forever. Have a look:

Japan Hobby Show Part 6: Sewing World

On the Japan Hobby Show in Tokyo you could not only see incredible fabrics but also work with them. In the ‘Fabric & Sewing World’ there was a whole area equipped with lots of sewing machines for people to work on. And they were super popular, all the spaces were constantly occupied. We were very impressed with the range of people working there. You would think that primarily experienced sewers and adults would use the machines. But we also saw quite a few children handling the sewing machines like they have never done anything else. And they would barely be tall enough to reach it.

Japan Hobby Show Part 5: fabrics

We already showed you the Kokka fabric booth at the Japan Hobby Show last week. But as sewing was a major theme at the trade show in Tokyo we also visited lots of other fabric booths. In fact is was a real fabric wonderland. Everywhere there were piles of fat quartes, fabric swatches and bolts, it would have taken days to look at every single fabric. Plus all the manufacturers had lots of lovely clothes, bags, home decor and more sewn with their textiles, so that you could see what to do with them. It was a great inspiration.
