A great fabric Schultüte for a sweet start to school!

modeS4u’s own Sandra recently created a super cute new item that we really wanted to show off here! Choosing a lovely children’s Robert Kaufman fabric with a superhero design, she made a fabulous present, a “Schultüte”, for her son, Mason.  As you will see in the photo included below, it is a huge cone-shaped container, and Mason looks very glad to have it in his hands!  Are you wondering why?  Well, the handmade cone is beautiful of course, but let’s get to know more about the Schultüte.

In German culture, children are given a Schultüte for their first day at primary school to ‘sweeten’ their start. These are usually filled with candy and stationery. Mason’s Schultüte also included socks and T-shirts. The Schultüte is undoubtedly a big hit with children!

Did you know about this charming tradition from countries like Austria and Germany?  It is really a smart idea, easily turning kawaii stationery supplies and some other useful school items like clothes or bento boxes into a great present!  You just need to add a few small gifts or sweets inside, and a gorgeous wrapping on the outside.  This is easily done, too: you may use some poster paper or light cardboard glued into a cone shape, then decorate the outside with fabric as Sandra did, and further wrap the inside bundle with colored tissue paper.

Have you ever made a Schultüte?  Let us know!

Mason looks very happy with his Schultüte!

Spread the love
