Are you a map and geography lover? A traveler at heart, someone who delights in mentally tracing routes and tracks when you come across an accurate map of a place you would like to visit? Do you find planispheres aesthetically beautiful and intellectually fascinating? Maybe you like checking on those weird world maps of old, where reality usually gets mixed with a good dose of imagination? Or perhaps you are a creative soul that enjoys drawing fictional maps yourself?
If any of the above options apply to you, and you like sewing or are learning to sew, we bid you a special welcome to today’s blog post, because we are sharing a free sewing pattern you will love! It uses a Robert Kaufman panel fabric that recently arrived in our shop, from the Vintage Blueprints collection. It features a downright elegant Robert Kaufman fabric of a vintage planisphere in a lovely medium dark blue, and with bits of text in old script. This gorgeous globe panel sits in the center of the design, doubly framed in dark and light blue, while the rest of the quilt uses a very light blue-grey. The outer section is embellished with rows of triangles in different shades of grey and blue, being a great chance to learn or practice the making of “flying geese” blocks.
Check out the pictures below for the finished project, plus fabric recommendations we have for you. It is indeed a very smart looking quilt, measuring 155cm x 179cm. The backing is left to your choice, so we have also included some images of fabrics which might inspire you. And here is more good news for novice quilters: this free quilting pattern is rated as easy, and recommended for beginners! Prepare your sewing tools, get the fabrics you need, and give it a go! Do not forget to send us a picture of your finished quilt, so that we can enjoy it and share it here 😉
