Looking for a pattern for a new quilt sewing project to work on? Then this one from Liberty Fabrics, our prestigious British provider of classic style prints, is the one for you! Check out their free sewing pattern for a stunning quilt! Liberty Fabrics’ designs are well known and appreciated worldwide, not only by sewing experts, but also by lovers of ornamental design and botanical illustration.
With the free sewing pattern, you can learn to make your own Liberty floral quilt, named “Flower Show Winter Quilt Project”. Flower shows are popular events, they have a long history dating back to the 19th century, the golden age of explorers, when new plant species were constantly being discovered. The first flower shows in Britain were held by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) from 1833 onwards. The RHS still organizes the country’s most famous yearly exhibitions, the Chelsea Flower Show and the Hampton Court Garden Festival.
The Flower Show free pattern features a historical and well loved design: the grid of overlapping circles. This design feat has been with us since time immemorial (the first known example dates from the 7th century BC, in Assyria). Liberty Fabrics’ gorgeous floral quilt is a 137cm x 160cm version. The background is a wonderful indigo blue floral print, on which are arranged petal shapes made of various flower fabrics favoring complementary colors, with a few contrasting examples. We’ve added some fabric suggestions here of stunning floral designs for you to consider using.
We hope quilting fans feel encouraged to make this quilt! Please send us photos of the complete project, we would love to see and share them 🙂
