The end of Spring to early Summer is arguably one of the best times to visit Paris, although early Autumn is also most recommended, but if you are not one of the lucky holiday-goers soon travelling to France, here is a beautiful and warm consolation prize! We just found a free sewing pattern to make a delightful Eiffel Tower quilt, perfect for the last cool nights of the season! Below, you can see images of the finished quilt and some fabrics used in its design, plus other fabric suggestions from us that could work as backing.
The central fabric panel in this quilting project is a pointillist painting by Paris-born artist Georges Seurat, founder of the Neo-Impressionism art style, that tried to incorporate ideas from the newly minted theory of color into his works. It features a colorful luminous take on the Eiffel Tower and its surroundings under a bright blue sky, which really looks as if the original scene viewed by Seurat belonged to a very fine sunny day in late spring.
These past years, Robert Kaufman has been giving all fine arts and fabric lovers great opportunities to work with fabulous works of art by European masters of avant-garde painting from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. We at modes4u have reveled in those wonderful collections named after painters of the Impressionist and Art-Nouveau movements like Monet, Renoir, etc., and all the gorgeous fabrics depicting their well-known artworks!
This free pattern for a finished quilt measuring about 131cm x 183cm is recommended for beginners. You will only need to work with strips of fabric to make the panel’s frames. For the main background, you will also need some wider strips, and a series of colorful small rectangles to create the keyboard-like top and bottom fringes. These will help you practice basic skills involved in accurately cutting, placing and sewing smaller pieces of fabric. All in all, this is an easy project, and a real breeze for any experienced quilter, so we encourage you to try it, enjoy it, and share with us some pictures of your finished Seurat quilt!
Wow! You can now make this stunning quilt!!
