Today we are dedicating our post to nani IRO, a textile brand carried by Kokka, one of our Japanese fabric providers. We recently received some beautiful pictures featuring their new textile designs for 2019, and just had to share them with you! Let’s start with the brand’s name: “nani” is a Hawaiian term meaning beautiful, and “iro” means both color and harmony in Japanese. Isn’t that a powerful hint of what textile design is all about for the watercolor artist behind the label, Naomi Ito?
Most nani IRO fabrics are double gauze or linen, at the express wish of Ito, who finds in nature her best source of inspiration. Along the brand’s 15 years of life so far, this Japanese award-winning artist has used 699 colors to create 127 textile designs! As you will see in the pictures, her work focuses on bright colors and often subtle color gradations, taking in shades of water and light. Nani IRO has pioneered an artistic approach to textile design in Japan, printing fabrics that directly incorporate Naomi Ito’s watercolor paintings: this is why their beautiful composition and gradual lines show off so intensely.
If you are one of those people that sometimes feel like surrounding themselves with beauty to improve their mood, productivity or creativity, or someone who oftentimes feels that wearing a garment or carrying an accessory which integrates a subtle and delicate touch of art would make your day, nani IRO cloth designs are very likely your thing. Also, if you are a sewing enthusiast, fabric lover or simply a fan of beautiful clothes, there are many elements you will undoubtedly enjoy in Naomi Ito’s textile designs.
When taking a closer look at her fabrics, you will probably start wondering about adding a long Japanese tunic or spring-summer coat to your wardrobe 🙂 Of course, any ample garment would help to better display some of her designs as the full pieces of artwork they are, but some others you can perfectly make into smaller items like bags or delightful shawls. You will find some examples of these in the images here. We have also added other close up pictures of nani IRO fabrics from our online shop, to best help you get to know them. Enjoy!
