We just received new Futakoshi Chirimen fabrics from the Japanese textile brand Kokka, and can’t stop looking and touching these gorgeous fabrics! They are textured, and have an exciting surface feel, together with a bright appearance. Chirimen is a type of Japanese crêpe fabric, a rich fabric that looks minutely crimped.

Many fashion lovers and sewing enthusiasts are very fond of structured fabrics like crêpe, dobby, amunzen, satin etc. Japanese structured fabrics are especially known for – and made even more attractive by – their gorgeous designs. These are mostly inspired by Asian motifs and aesthetic traditions, adding to their feel of authenticity.

Chase away the winter blues with goodies to warm you up!

If you live somewhere in the Northern Hemisphere, it’s likely you are already wishing for a bit less of the cold and a bit more of day light. After a harsh month of winter, many people feel down around the end of January. They often tag it the worst month of the year, and even make up stories about the “Monday Blues”! In some places, February can be even colder than January. Well, despite the cold, the winter season does have many wonderful and beautiful things about it, like any other season, even after Christmas has gone by!

This is the best time to enjoy snow and ice, fireplaces, warm comfy clothes, hot beverages and dishes, sleeping in on weekends, baking and roasting more often, and any other indoor activities and hobbies, whether reading, crafting, sewing or whichever are your favourites! Instead of wondering whether spring will take much longer to come, make sure you get your fill of those activities now, before they are gone again until next winter!

modeS4u Stories: The Sentimental Circus

The Sentimental Circus

The Sentimental Circus animals woke-up under a large dumpster. It was the middle of the night, and all the animals were ready to roll after a long daytime sleep. Rabbit Shappo enthusiastically stood up, jumping up and down on the balls of his feet. He quickly walked past the other animals, clapping his hands.

“Come on guys! We’ve got a show to run!” Rabbit Shappo declared.

All the other animals began to wake, slightly groaning.

“Come on Toto, my best bud!” Rabbit said to his closest companion.

“Ok, ok,” Toto replied quietly. He didn’t like to be picked on individually, especially in front of the other circus animals.

“You take care of the kiosk tonight, remember?” Rabbit Shappo said.

“Oh, yes, of course,” Toto said, finding the little courage he had and scampering to the middle of the narrow alleyway that they called home. He quickly set up the kiosk, then showed a thumbs up to Shappo.

“Ok, ok,” Rabbit said excitedly, getting into coordinator mood. “Muton, Rio and Kuro – set up the circus tent”. The elephant, lion and cat – respectively – ran to the back of the alleyway, behind the kiosk, and began their work. “Mr. Bear, you do what you do best,” Rabbit Shappo said as he winked at the energetic little bear. Mr. Bear ran to the front of the alleyway, and started to tap dance, attracting other abandoned toy animals to the circus.

Suddenly, a large crowd of animals flooded into the alleyway, dollar bills in hand.

“Okay, guys!” Rabbit Shappo shouted over the rising ruckus to his animal friends, “To the Tent!”

The show, as always, was a fabulous success! First, Rabbit Shappo entered the ring and introduced all the animals. Then, one by one, they did their acts. Toto started everything off with his juggling act, followed by Rio the lion jumping through hoops. Then came Mouton and his acrobatics act – he’s very flexible for an elephant! Finally, Mr. Bear did his cycling act, and Kuro the black cat did his performance on the rolling globe.

When the show came to an end, there was a standing ovation for the abandoned circus animals. They bowed together.

Then, as the large crowd filed out of the tent, the tent was taken down, the kiosk folded up, and the equipment put away.

Then, at the break of dawn, all the animals took their place under the large dumpster, and went back to sleep.

This had been their best show yet.

modeS4u Stories: The Loch Ness Monster

We have a new original story as written by our fabulous teammate, this time featuring the most kawaii shy animals out there, the Sumikkogurashi! Enjoy the story!

The Loch Ness Monster

Shirokuma, the polar bear scared of the cold, the green Penguin and the Neko, were strolling down a street, trick or treating. The shy polar bear was dressed up as an iceberg. Penguin, the penguin with an identity crisis, was dressed up as a bird. Neko, the shy cat, was dressed up as a mouse. They were going to meet Tokage the lizard at the village lake.

The trio walked down the streets, avoiding others as much as possible. When they got to the lake, Tokage wasn’t there. They turned around, facing away from the water.

“I wonder where he is,” Penguin said aloud.

Something wet and slimy touched Neko’s shoulder.

“Shirokuma, I think your costume is melting,” Neko said, slightly turning her head. She saw a green hand on her shoulder.

“G-g-g-guys,” Neko stammered.

The others turned around.

It was the Loch Ness Monster.

“BOO!” shouted the monster.

“AHHHHHH!” screamed the Sumikkogurashi shy animals.

The Loch Ness Monster started to chuckle. Then, it burst out laughing.

Shirokuma, the green Penguin and Neko were confused.

The face of the Lochness Monster fell off – it was a mask.

Tokage’s face was revealed. He was still hysterically laughing.

“Tokage!” the three friends exclaimed.

The lizard had stopped laughing now, but his face still had a smirk on it.

“What,” he shrugged. “I’ve always wanted to be the Lochness Monster.”

Everyone looked at each other. Then, they burst out laughing.

modeS4u Stories: Rilakkuma and Friends

One of our lovely team members flexed her creative writing muscles and whipped up a fun short story about everyone’s favorite lazy bear, Rilakkuma! Enjoy the story below!

Rilakkuma and Friends

Rilakkuma was lazily lying under the warm Japanese sun. He was enjoying another afternoon in the garden doing nothing. But in the back of his mind, he knew that his lazy time alone was going to be ruined.

Right on queue, a large red water balloon engulfed him in water. Soft giggling could be heard in from a nearby tree.

A cute, white bear cub climbed down the large trunk of the tree. Her name was Korilakkuma. She was the source of the giggling.

“Got you!” she hysterically laughed.

A small, plump yellow bird came flapping out of the house.

“What is this disgrace!” he shouted, crazily flapping his wings. His name was Kiiroitori. He was a very grumpy and nosy bird, always getting into others’ business. He looked at Rilakkuma – drenched. His head slowly turned towards Korilakkuma. Korilakkuma’s smile was immediately wiped off her face.

“Explain,” Kiiroitori said in a cold voice.

“It was just a joke,” said Korilakkuma, crossing her arms and sticking out her tongue.

“Did you just stick your tongue at me, young lady?!” Kiiroitori asked in rage, his chubby yellow face turning bright red.

“Kiiroitori, just leave her alone,” Rilakkuma said in a lazy voice.

“Oh, why don’t you come here and help her out, then, Lazy Pants” Kiiroitori said in a challenging tone.

“First, give me a dumpling,” Rilakkuma plainly said, a plan forming in his head.

Kiiroitori rolled his eyes and flapped towards the basket near Rilakkuma’s lounging chair. But just as the little yellow bird was reaching for a dumpling, Rilakkuma grabbed him.

“What do you think you’re do-” Kiiroitori began, but he didn’t finish sentence. Rilakkuma had begun to tickle him.

Kiiroitori began to chuckle… Then giggle… And then burst out laughing.

“This’ll cheer him up,” Rilakkuma smiled.

“HA-HA-HA!!!” Kiiroitori laughed out loud. “STOOOP!!!” he laughed happily, tears forming in his eyes.

Rilakkuma stopped.

Kiiroitori was still giggling. “Thanks Rilakkuma!” he began happily. “That really cheered me up!”

“Gosh. I didn’t know Kiiroitori could actually smile,” Korilakkuma said, a mischievous smirk forming on the corners of her mouth.

Kiiroitori and Rilakkuma glared at Korilakkuma.

Rilakkuma mouthed Don’t, and shook his head.

Korilakkuma simply shrugged innocently.
