Use washi tape to decorate your home!

The start of the new year is a perfect time to make some changes in decorations that will lend extra points of beauty to your home, and even contribute towards improving your mood! Fortunately, all you need are a bit of time and a little skill to fancy up your walls with washi tape, which is also a much cheaper option than using paint, wallpapers, pictures or wall furniture.

Do not hesitate to try it! Washi tape does not stain the surfaces you apply it to, and is very easily removed. There are zillions of designs, from solid colours to any pattern or mix you can think of, and many different sizes. You can use washi tape, such as mt tapes, for all sorts of other arts and crafts projects too.

You can use regular sized or extra wide washi tape to get absolutely great results. Just check out below for some of the wonderful ideas we came across on Pinterest; we are certain they will inspire you to try decorating some blank space or surface. Get creative!

Of course, we would love for you to share any artistic results with us, so go ahead, do some washi tape wall art, and send us some images to share!

What is more kawaii than a donut? Check out inspirational donut creations!

Few treats have reached the popularity and expansion the donut presently has, not only as a classic shape for different sweet treats in a multitude of countries, but also as an attractive, successful design to create non-edible items like decorations, accessories, clay jewellery etc.

Donuts can be incredibly kawaii, and we have come across some super cute examples we just had to share with you here.  Take a look at the pictures below and enjoy!  Some of them are real food, while others are not, but they are all artistic creations and could be inspiring for DIY lovers and cooks alike.

The first totally impressive collection of ceramic donuts we found is from the All About Hong Kong Instagram page, and were created by Korean artist Kim Jae Yong.  The rest of the gorgeous pictures come from Instagram and Pinterest.

If you would like to try to make some kawaii non-edible donuts (as accessories etc.) then check out the arts and crafts supplies we have available in our shop. If you would rather try an edible version, some bento accessories we also have available would come in handy.  We also have tons of fun donut squishies in our shop if you’re just looking for cute toys to play with! Check those images below!

WOW! Check out all the inspiring designs! These were created by Kim Jae Yong. This image is from All About Hong Kong's Instagram page.

Welcome to the art of kawaii food with Sanrio characters!

Another great thing about living in Hong Kong is that you may easily come across kawaii-themed food!  Here we show you some images of sweet treats and dishes featuring popular Sanrio characters, that we found on All About Hong Kong’s Facebook and Instagram pages.  Just take a look at the pictures below, don’t they look yummy and super cute?

As you see, some brands include Hello Kitty, Pompompurin, My Melody, Gudetama and friends in their food packages or as food decoration, while others unleash their creative cooking and baking abilities, shaping foods themselves as kawaii characters.

However, you do not need to be a professional cook or experienced patissier to give this a try.  You can easily prepare kawaii bentos that will look amazingly cute, and more so if you have some useful bento accessories.  There is a whole world of molds, cutters, seals, picks etc. available that will let you shape and decorate food.

Check out some of our bento accessories, and find the inspiration you need to get started on making your own kawaii food!

Inspiration for fun kids’ sewing projects!

Sewing can be fun, and knowing the basics of sewing is always a good idea: how to sew a button, mend small tears, make neat seams and hems etc.  There are lots of sewing projects that kids will enjoy, and you can help them learn some tricks with sewing notions, needle and thread, and kawaii children’s fabrics. You will also be able to spend great quality time together.

Here we will just give you a few ideas of easy sewing projects for kids, with some of our favorite images found on Pinterest.  Take a look below, and you will soon be getting creative!

Solid color fabrics can be cut into small funny shapes children can easily work with. You can also give Charm Squares to any young sewing enthusiast to help them practice cutting out shapes they can sew together. The possibilities of what they can make are endless, such as small cupcake-like purses, awesome fabric piggy banks, embellishments for cushion covers, dolls, monsters etc.

Embroidery hoops are great tools for those learning how to sew. They keep any fabric in place and make for a beautiful frame too!  Here, easy projects for kids would include using cute buttons as embellishments for any design (such as the gorgeous tree in the picture below), stitching along the lines or dots of any design drawn onto fabric, trying cross-stitching or basic embroidered shapes like stars, etc.

Finally, you can always resort to the classic sock snake, and help kids make their own funny stuffed toy out of tights or long socks filled with dried beans, grain, old scraps etc.  You can then decorate them with many of the fun notions we have in our shop.

If you decide to give any of these ideas a go, please do send us some pictures of your finished projects, we would love to see and share them! 🙂

Our favorite sew and NO-SEW aprons for Christmas and all year-round!

We know some of you are great fans of fabric, fashion or textile design, yet have never sewn at all… not even a button on a shirt!  So here is the good news for all of you fabric lovers, whether you’re able to use a needle or not:  You don’t even need to sew to make a beautiful apron!

There are many examples of no-sew aprons available online, for instance.  Check out some of the images we found! When we saw these, we simply knew we had to share them with you! You will see wonderful ideas that can be put into practice in no time, and with very little cost.  All you need is a cute Christmas fabric, scissors, some kawaii ribbon or string, an iron… and the mood for some DIY crafting!

For those of you who do wish to sew, there are many apron sewing projects that keep sewing to a minimum.  These can be a great place to start for total beginners!  Sometimes, all you need is to recycle any old piece of clothing, and attach to it a useful pocket made with a gorgeous Christmas fabric.  This is a great way to reuse large shirts, dresses and overalls.

You can check out a super fun tutorial for making an apron by clicking here. It features instructions on how to make no-sew and sewn aprons!

Aprons are a cook’s best friend, and can also be a great incentive to spur kitchen helpers this Christmas.  Of course, they make very good gifts for anyone that’s into cooking, arts and crafts, DIY etc.  Most likely, aprons would be really welcome in any home with toddlers or small kids, too.  So what are you waiting for?  Don’t forget to send us pictures of your finished Xmas aprons!
