We absolutely love the new multicolored batik fabrics from the Patina Handpaints collection by Robert Kaufman that recently arrived in our shop! We found a magnificent sewing project for an artful quilt featuring those same colorful designs so of course, we had to share it with you here! We love that these batik prints look like rainbow fabrics!
Thanks to designer Ariga Mahmoudlou, you can easily sew an impressive quilt with a clever structure of strips and square blocks that makes for a really strong visual effect. Even though it implies quite a lot of pieces, this free sewing project is rated as apt for beginners, and will undoubtedly hone your quilting skills. You just have to be extra careful with all those straight lines!
The finished quilt measures about 140cm x 162.5cm, and would suit any environment that welcomes a good dose of energy and dynamism. The ideal room for such a contrasting quilt would favor neutral light shades, and have just a few strongly colored elements.
These lovely fabrics in the Patina Handpaints collection look a bit like marbled paper, and are a pleasure to look at. If you decide to give this sewing project a go, make sure to send us your photos when it is finished, as we would love to see and share them!
Today’s post makes us especially happy because it is all about sharing with you a few pictures of cute items that one of our talented customers, mojahomemade, has recently sewn with some of our fabrics. Marine is based in France, and favors lovely designs in soft colors by world class textile firms. She turns them into lovely personalized objects, totally apt for daily use in any house with young kids, or even in kindergarten and primary school. The name of each child is skillfully embroidered onto each item, a most useful feature for adults and children alike!
Check out some of her photos below to get an idea of the so very nice handmade items she creates; you can see a lot more on Instagram page too. There are pretty cushion covers where two different designs or patterns are used for the front and back. We do love the Peter Pan-themed blue one, with the clever addition on the back of 3 blue stars hinting at the silhouettes of some London icons. This same design is successfully applied to a couple of charming covers featuring other children’s fabrics, the ‘dragon-knight-castle’ one, and the ‘space-robot-rocket’.
For babies and toddlers, there are fantastic reusable fabric wipes, bibs and pacifier straps, always customized with names. A highlight for us is a really kawaii peach colored diaper bag, with the loveliest outer fringe and pockets made using a sweet children’s parade print.
Marine also makes small backpacks for young children, and comfortable-looking face masks in many different designs. Which do you like best?
We at our kawaii shop modes4u are paying homage to the season today with a magnificent free sewing pattern that celebrates autumn colors. It is a quilt design by Ariga Mahmoudlou that makes the most out of a gorgeous panel panel fabric by Robert Kaufman featuring a lovely birch copse in all its splendor. This nature fabric will indeed dazzle you with its metallic gold embellishments: check out the images below for a golden close-up!
Birches are slender thin-leaved trees with a delicate appearance, sometimes white-barked like those in the panel. They love boreal and temperate climates, and humans have found a great diversity of uses for their wood, bark and leaves since prehistory. Due to their beauty, especially during autumn, birches are also used for ornamental purposes.
This charming quilt will measure about 107cm x 152cm when finished. The sewing pattern is recommended for beginners, who will have to be extra careful when cutting and assembling the elaborate frames around the birch wood panel, with many little triangles in different shades of brown, red, orange and yellow. If you decide to give it a try, make sure to send us your photos of the finished quilt, as we would love to see and share them! We have included some solid color fabric suggestions as well!
