Humans have built up a veritable pile of fantastic creatures along the way…and we happily keep adding more to it, thanks to a seemingly limitless ability that very much defines our cognitive powers: imagination! Some of these inhabitants of the Fantasy kingdom have been with us for a really long time, like dragons and unicorns; they are especially popular, and have acquired different meanings along the way. You can find them in books, artistic items, and everyday products, as part of our lives.
Here is an example: a wonderful quilt that makes good use of a colorful Robert Kaufman panel fabric with several panels featuring magical unicorns, butterflies and fairies. The background is a gorgeous design of a midnight starry sky in deep rich dark blue, which naturally highlights the main colors used in the panel fabric: lighter blues, purples and some hints of rainbow.
You can find the free sewing pattern here that will allow you to make your own unicorn quilt, provided you have some confidence in your abilities, that is, because this project is recommended for sewing enthusiasts with at least an intermediate level of experience. As you will see in the images included below, you will learn to make some beautiful 8-pointed stars that work both as main motifs in the blocks of top and bottom rows, and as the union between panels. The finished quilt measures 151 x 198 cm (or 59.5 x 78 inches).
We hope to have helped you get inspired to try your hand at this dreamy quilt 🙂 Please, do not forget to send us pictures once completed: we would really love to see and share them!
