Funny Despicable Me exhibition in Hong Kong

This exhibition already ended a couple of days ago, still we wanted to show you some pictures. Hong Kong is totally crazy about the Minions from the movie Despicable Me, so when Despicable Me 2 started there were promotions with the funny yellow creatures all around. In the shopping mall Maritime Square there was a huge exhibition dedicated to the Minions with lots of funny Minions figures and inflatable Minion installations.

Hello Kitty back to 1960s exhibition in Hong Kong

The shopping centre Langham Place in Hong Kong started another super kawaii Hello Kitty exhibition. In Hello Kitty back to 1960s x Langham Place Hello Kitty and her friends discover the 1960s of Hong Kong and tour around some major landmarks. It’s a super cool concept as it shows the cute cat with lots of traditional pieces of Chinese culture. Of course the people in Hong Kong go crazy about it, as it shows famous landmarks of their city like the Lion Rock Tunnel, Star Ferry Pier and The Clock Tower.

Cute Moomin exhibition in Hong Kong

Do you know the Moomins? They are the cute main characters of a Scandinavian book and comic series and currently the heroes of a promotion in the Hong Kong shopping mall The One. In The One x Moomin Summer Train Journey there are lots of cute photo opportunities revolving around the white hippos and the other main characters. As usual people in Hong Kong go crazy about everything cute they can take a picture with, so no matter when you pass the exhibition, there will always be plenty of people.

The train design is really adorable and quite lavish. We think it creates a cute cozy atmosphere and totally enjoyed looking at all the details on that train.

Aloha Rilakkuma promotion at Hong Kong Chinese soup shop

The Aloha Rilakkuma collection is the perfect summer companion as it puts you in a sunny mood. The food chain Hung Fook Tong that specializes in Chinese soups now has a special summer Rilakkuma promotion with this collection. The local Hong Kong store offers special membership value cards in cute Rilakkuma Hawaii designs. The cards and charms have a certain money value on them, so you can use them to pay your purchases and recharge them once they are empty.

You can also buy exclusive Aloha Rilakkum items like tumblers, cups, umbrellas and tote bags with the cute Rilakkuma bear when purchasing from the Hung Fook Tong shops. On a special website there are also provide useful summer health tips in a special Rilakkuma design. Some are related to food, e.g. they recommend Chinese herbal tea, fruits and melons to help moisturizing dryness and cooling down the body. Some are related to everyday life, for example to wear loose, white clothes during summer or rather open the windows for ventilation instead of fans and air-cons.

The first modes4u wedding

Summertime is wedding time all around the world – also at modes4u. Our team member Maggie just got married and invited the whole team to join the wedding ceremony. The bride and groom picked a lovely little church in Hong Kong for the wedding, which looked very much like an ancient European church with stucco on the ceilings and colourful mosaic windows. That it was not that old was revealed by the fact that there were integrated monitors in those parts where you couldn’t see the altar very well and got a video feed of what is happening. A very convenient feature.

The church was packed with friends and family of the couple who enjoyed the fairy tale like wedding. Of course the bride looked stunning in her beautiful wedding dress as did the groom in his tuxedo. The ceremony was held in Cantonese and was very touching – even for our team members who didn’t understand the language. As wedding photos are very important in Hong Kong there were many photographers and of course all the guests also took lots of pictures.

It was a really beautiful wedding and we enjoyed it very much. Congratulations to Maggie & Kenneth from the whole team!

Huge rubber duck in Hong Kong Harbour

You might have seen it on the news already, Hong Kong has a very special visitor. A 16 meter tall yellow rubber duck is floating in Victoria Harbour and it did not just attract media from all over the world, but also thousands of Hong Kongers and tourists. We also wanted to look at this piece of art created by the Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman, but it’s not an easy task. Although everybody can go and visit the duck, it is celebrated like a pop star. We almost couldn’t get through to it, as there were hundreds or even thousands of people surrounding it taking pictures.

Fortunately it still stays in Hong Kong until June 6th, so we hop to catch a time with less people.

Inflatable art exhibition in Hong Kong

A couple of days ago a new free art exhibition started in Hong Kong. The exhibition Mobile M+: Inflation centers around huge inflatable objects designed by different artists from Asia, the USA and the UK and was already in the news all over the world. We checked it out too and it’s definitely something we haven’t seen before. Usually you see a lot of cute and kawaii exhibitions in Hong Kong, but this one rather revolves around unusual objects like roasted pigs, cockroaches or Stonehenge.

It was super interesting to check out the sculptures, especially as some even were accessible for the spectator. You could for example line up to jump a bit on the gigantic Stonehenge exhibit, which was basically a big bouncing castle. You could also walk into the belly of the roasted pig and see the rib cage as well as inflatable bacon cushions.

Funny Bunny exhibition in Hong Kong mall

Easter is over already, but we still want to show you a couple of pictures from this super cute exhibition we discovered in the Hong Kong Miramar Shopping Centre. It’s all about the funny bright pink MiRabbit who hides in different spots of the mall. The highlight of the exhibition can’t be hidden very well though, because it is a super huge pink sofa in the shape of the bunny. Isn’t that adorable? People are invited to chill out on the sofa and they really do, which is quite a cool sight. You can’t get to wild though and jump on the sofa, as there is a security man who makes sure that everybody behaves.

Rilakkuma at Hong Kong Marathon

On Sunday 72,000 people participated in the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2013 through Hong Kong. One of them was Rilakkuma! To be honest, we did not expect to see him there as he is such a lazy bear and you have to be in very good shape to run a marathon. But in the end we were right, the lazy bear rather posed for pictures and TV cameras than focusing on the marathon. He is a lazy bear after all!

There were lots of people in funny costumes participating in the marathon, but of course Rilakkuma was the most popular character in the spotlight.
