Sewing can be fun, and knowing the basics of sewing is always a good idea: how to sew a button, mend small tears, make neat seams and hems etc. There are lots of sewing projects that kids will enjoy, and you can help them learn some tricks with sewing notions, needle and thread, and kawaii children’s fabrics. You will also be able to spend great quality time together.
Here we will just give you a few ideas of easy sewing projects for kids, with some of our favorite images found on Pinterest. Take a look below, and you will soon be getting creative!
Solid color fabrics can be cut into small funny shapes children can easily work with. You can also give Charm Squares to any young sewing enthusiast to help them practice cutting out shapes they can sew together. The possibilities of what they can make are endless, such as small cupcake-like purses, awesome fabric piggy banks, embellishments for cushion covers, dolls, monsters etc.
Embroidery hoops are great tools for those learning how to sew. They keep any fabric in place and make for a beautiful frame too! Here, easy projects for kids would include using cute buttons as embellishments for any design (such as the gorgeous tree in the picture below), stitching along the lines or dots of any design drawn onto fabric, trying cross-stitching or basic embroidered shapes like stars, etc.
Finally, you can always resort to the classic sock snake, and help kids make their own funny stuffed toy out of tights or long socks filled with dried beans, grain, old scraps etc. You can then decorate them with many of the fun notions we have in our shop.
If you decide to give any of these ideas a go, please do send us some pictures of your finished projects, we would love to see and share them! 🙂
