Evie and Emmie are a mother and young daughter who have spent years travelling together – just the two of them! Then, the pandemic brought the world to a standstill. Guess what happened to our friends? They got stuck back in Australia! To help them get through it, we surprised them with some kawaii goodies! Watch their reaction below.
Oh, wow! Don’t you just love how much joy we’ve been able to share with our friends? Emmie’s face just lit up! This reminds us of why we continue to pour our hearts into modes4u. We love to see how happy our customers are when they share their unboxing videos.
Evie and Emmie’s reaction means a lot to us because we know how much lockdown has affected us as well as millions of families around the world. We are so inspired by these girls, their sense of adventure, and their reslience. In Evie’s words, here’s what happened:
In February 2016 we began our travels through Asia – which ended up being more than THREE YEARS of traveling with our backpacks and continued until Covid 19 brought us back home to Australia.
It was the best decision I ever made. We had the most amazing time and we developed a beautiful, close bond that I will treasure forever.
Since coming back from Asia we lived on Magnetic Island and explored Queensland for 18 months, and have now returned to Sydney to wait until it’s our time to travel again.
Evie Farrell, MumPack Travel
Evie is a published author who wrote the book, Backyard to Backpack. In the book, she tells us the origin story of this dynamic duo, and we learn how and why Evie and Emmie decided to start their travels this way. Aren’t you curious to learn what it’s like to travel with a little kid? We hope you explore the girls’ journey to your hearts’ content, and that you’ll be as energised by them as we are!
Emmie herself has created a gorgeous little project to support young people as they embark on new journeys. We love these pocket cards full of wonderful sayings and illustrations. We totally want a bunch of Pocket Powers, too! Mum Evie explains how they came about in her own words below:
Are you kids nervous about going back to school? Pocket Powers are for kids to keep in their pockets at school and read or even just hold when they need support, a boost, or miss their parents or carers.
Emmie first made her own pocket cards with affirmations and drawings when she was having a tough time at school last year and they gave her so much support when she was excluded and alone. They worked so well that she made them for other kids and now sells them too 💙
If your kids are starting school, returning to school, starting at a new school or just getting social, then Pocket Powers can help them through and also give us mums, dads and carers a little peace of mind knowing they have what they need in their pocket. Or you can pop one into their lunch box or pencil case for a special surprise during the day, or add an extra one for them to give to a friend who may need a little care.

Love that adventure for this outstanding young lady, and we think those cute cards would work with our bento boxes! If you are also in love with the kawaii things the girls opened in the video, we’ve gathered a few similar goodies we think you’d like. Enjoy!
If you’d like to share your happy unboxing experiences like Evie and Emmie have, do so, and then send all your links via email to info@modes4u.com. On Instagram, feel free to add the hashtag: #modes4uunboxing

Welcome to our sweet Valentine’s Gift Guide, which we hope will inspire you to make space in your heart for cuteness this February! We’ve now hit season 3 of this pandemic, so if you are still missing your sweethearts and loved ones far away, sending something small and cute, or making something from scratch with romantic fabrics might be *just* the thing.
Choose from our incredibly high quality pink Japanese fabrics for your projects. From florals to traditional motifs, to kawaii character prints, we receive large shipments of carefully selected bolts of fabrics to soothe your mind and inspire your imagination.
In our guide, you will see some pinked-edge swatches, a solo bolt of a super adorable pink bunny gingham which would make a perfect apron – and 4 bolts of feminine, lighter pink fabrics, including a creamy pink solid for lining or a blouse to go with!
Let’s move into the realm of squishies – you know, those soft, slow rising, relaxing toys that look good enough to eat and feel glorious to touch? We’re quite the fans of chocolate covered strawberries, especially those sublime Japanese ones – and when they’re dipped in chocolate, it’s a game changer – so check out the corresponding squishy!
Disney offers us a perfectly scrumptious lilac coloured macaron squishy with a not-so-hidden Mickey on it. You’ll be pleased to know that we have it in more colours – but then, you already know that’s how we roll here at modes4u. Not hundreds, but thousands of products for you to choose from!
Sammy the Patissier makes a whole load of teatime goodies but we’re particularly fond of churros. Cold winter days with a mug of hot chocolate and crispy fried churros, anybody? The squishy we have in mind for you is pink and heart shaped, naturally.
The cutest animals come to you in this guide via an Oriker tiger squishy that smells divine, and a sweet little bunny capsule toy who is ‘sweeping’ with paint! We know you enjoy a little 3D adorable realness like we do.
This guide has been lovingly put together (and illustrated!) by the modes4u team, and we can’t wait to hear which of these you love the best!
Rounding up that list for you again, we’ve got:
As if we needed another reason to bring the squishy game, we are creating a very special surprise for you all to celebrate this season of love! Catch it on our Facebook and Instagram.

Tuck it under a table, leave it by a door – either way, it is unobtrusive, yet useful. Yes, we’re talking about a stool! And if you can get it ‘custom’, why not? We love this gorgeous one that we customised with this perfect patterned fabric from Cosmo, specially imported from Japan.
The red fabric has yellow clouds and blue florals, and features pretty birds! The silver metallic detailing makes the fabric even lusher. While we’re all sold out of this particular fabric, we know that you will enjoy the many unique pieces we do have in stock. You might consider Japanese fabrics for similarly amazing quality, but you could also find what suits your fancy in ‘our fabric aisle’.
We had this particular stool created in Paris. Can you see how the primary colours make it so chic? So, I suppose it’s fair to say: we think we’ve found the best way to add a splash of colour and texture to a space while considering utility! Have you ever thought about adding unique fabrics to your space via customised small furniture pieces?
While we admit that interior decorating is very personal to most people, we think we can all agree that especially in smaller spaces (which, let’s admit, is most of our homes in this day and age), everything we bring into our home needs to meld form and function particularly well.
That’s why we think you might want to try a stool. Sit on it, leave your bag on it, prop a laptop upon it, perhaps even leave a tray on it with a glass of something delicious. It doesn’t have a back, so it doesn’t obstruct any views, nor does it create visual clutter at your eye line.
We know that a random IKEA stool won’t really say anything about you when you’re a maker, a sewist, a crafter – so we’re here to address your desire for something ‘more’. Let us help! Pick up some suitable fabric from our huge selection, and customise your upholstered furniture! You know, the kind you can get from a thrift store, or perhaps an old piece you already have? Don’t forget to tag us in the photos!
Happy crafting!
