Are you getting ready for Christmas yet? We are full of Xmas spirit, surrounded as we are by zillions of Christmas products 🙂 Sometimes there are items and designs that strike us due to their sheer originality, their novel take on the holidays motifs and atmosphere. However, today we are simply smitten by the loveliness of a very traditional-Christmas-looking quilt: check the images below, and you will see what we mean! We really love this free sewing pattern for a quilt in Christmas sweater style!
It is a design by Wendy Sheppard, using Christmas fabrics by Michael Miller that feature diamonds and fawn in a wholly Xmas palette of red, green, white and black. The quilt is structured in rows, with motifs and strips reminiscent of traditional knitted Nordic sweaters. This is especially true of the top and bottom rows of ice crystals, and the central row of reindeer, but also of the myriad of tiny diamonds with metallic gold embellishments on a white background.
The finished item measures about 178 x 203 cm or 70 x 80 inches. It is recommended for people with at least an intermediate level of sewing experience, as it includes some pretty complex blocks, e.g. those featuring snowflakes and reindeer, which are made out of quite a lot of small squares and rectangles. There is also an easier row of Christmas trees in 2 sizes. All those horizontal rows are surrounded by three frames in gorgeous patterned fabrics, like the one with deer, holly and Xmas trees in diamonds, or that with fawn medallions.
If you decide to undertake this beautiful free quilting project, do send us your own photos once finished, as we love to see and share what you do with our fabrics!
