year of the pig
Did you know that the Year of the Pig is sometimes referred to as the Year of the Boar? Boars and pigs are part of the same family, but do look a little bit different in real life. If you want to celebrate or learn more about the upcoming Year of the Pig, you can start by checking out what boars look like in real life if you are not familiar with these beasts… although we must tell you that, according to the Chinese Zodiac, boars and pigs are the perfect example of the classic tenet ‘looks are deceiving’, as their beautiful nature hides under a seemingly ungraceful appearance!
We bet most of you would not mention wild boars if asked about your favorite cute animals, would you? Whilst some other kawaii animals might come to mind first, such as pigs, we definitely know boars can be cute too, especially after we came across some amazingly kawaii depictions of these creatures on Pinterest! Don’t they look lovely? Check out the pictures below to see what we mean 🙂 What do you think of these kawaii boars?
Some of your favourite kawaii characters are celebrating the upcoming Chinese New Year, too! Take a look below at the recently updated front cover picture of the Sanrio Hong Kong Facebook page, and images of some other beautiful designs featuring Sanrio characters that we spotted on the Mega Box Hong Kong Facebook page. We just had to share them with you!
They were created for the promotion of a Sanrio CNY event called the Six Golden Piggies Lantern Carnival, which will be taking place at the MegaBox mall. As you will see in the wonderfully cute photos of the display included below, six Sanrio characters have become golden piggies for the occasion: My Melody, Cinnamoroll, Kuromi, Pompompurin, Keroppi and Osaru no monkichi. Don’t you think they look gorgeous? Which one do you like best?
As Chinese New Year gets nearer, the malls and streets of Hong Kong primp up to welcome the Earth Pig, which is the Chinese Zodiac animal of the upcoming Lunar New Year. The festivities also revolve around the coming of spring. Many brands create dedicated products and promotions, or embellish them with CNY designs, like for the 7-Eleven Coca-Cola Japan edition picture included below.
This means you can find lots of cute pigs and many beautiful flowers on merchandising and store decorations, with pink being the predominant color. We have selected a few great pictures from the All About Hong Kong Facebook page, so that you can get a taste of what things look like so far…They have been taken at Langham Place, The ONE and New Town Plaza malls, and in the streets of Hong Kong. Even the kawaii crochet installation at Fashion Walk by La Belle Epoque has been updated for the celebration!
Which of these images do you like best? Let us know!
The 2019 Lunar New Year festivities will take place in early February, to welcome the Year of the Pig. This is a time to celebrate all over China, but also in other Asian countries, and wherever there is a Chinese community worldwide. In fact, many people travel home to take part in the Chinese New Year celebrations with their loved ones!
You may often hear of it referred to as the Spring Festival, and it includes many beautiful traditions like family gatherings, visiting temples, giving away red envelopes with money inside, magnificent fireworks displays, and fabulous parades. These feature wonderful floats, and are full of music and colour, but the traditional dragon and lion dances in the streets are probably their most striking attraction.
Everyone is getting ready for the biggest holiday here, and we have already found some nice pictures to share with you, just check them out below. They are taken from the All About Hong Kong Facebook page, and include a delightful graphic design with little pigs for a ‘Year of the Pig’ travel card promotion, a great Dragon Dance Lego toy, and a charming set of sweet packages featuring funny dancing lions. What do you think of them?
