We have another free sewing pattern for you, this time for a lovely wall hanging, that we definitely wanted to share here.  It features one of several Timeless Treasures’ panel fabrics which recently arrived in our shop. Check out the delightful image below for an overview of the finished quilt; see how it cries out spring and summer with all its might!

This is a great sewing project for beginners and it requires only a modest amount of work, therefore it’s perfect for anyone learning the ropes of quilting.  The central panel features a country landscape with a red American barn and some blooming trees at the top, plus a bottom section filled with magnificent tulips in all colors.  This nature design is doubly framed, with an inner strip of sky surrounded by an outer wide strip of tree tops. We’ve included a number of fabric suggestions here, including some slightly different designs if you want to try this quilt out with a slightly different look!

If you are a quilting beginner, the idea of hanging a quilt on your wall for decoration may come as a surprise, but once you check out this beautiful project, you will never look at quilts, fabric panels and bare walls the same way again 🙂  There is really nothing new in the idea of fabric wall hangings, in fact we humans have been using them to insulate, decorate and protect walls all throughout history!  So here is a great chance to ‘go back to basics’, recovering a somewhat forgotten use of fabric crafts that will let you enjoy your artistic sewing creations differently.

Today we want to dedicate this post to those readers thinking about their upcoming summer holidays in the sun, because we found a free sewing pattern that will delight any beach and ocean lover!  As you will see in the images below, this gorgeous quilt design uses one of Robert Kaufman’s digitally printed fabrics from the ‘Picture This‘ series, featuring a full panel with a colorful marine tropical landscape.

Quilting beginners usually love panel fabrics, because they allow for simpler designs, so this is a great chance for those of you who have recently started to sew or quilt!  In fact, this beautiful sewing project is recommended for beginners! 

The fabric for backing your new quilt is a free choice, but we just added a few suggestions below to help you get inspired 😉  The finished project is a single-bed quilt measuring about 160cm x 112cm, with a wonderfully bright and cheerful look.  The depth of colors and the detailed print will do the trick even under the most intense sunlight… There is a ton of vibrant color in the dynamic bottom section of the panel, which is teaming with underwater wildlife, and the peaceful view of a warm sunset framed by palm trees below a starry sky, featured on the panel’s upper half.

USA fabrics and designers are internationally renowned for their quality products and high standards in the textile trade. Robert Kaufman is one of our most popular American providers, and we ensure to carry a wide selection of Robert Kaufman fabric in our shop.  Among their recent collections is Patriots, which includes designs based on famous USA icons and symbols, like the stars and stripes.  Here you will find a free sewing pattern that combines 2 panel fabrics of said collection to make a strikingly attractive quilt measuring 114cm x 160cm.

The panel fabric taking center stage features a spectacular rendition of the American flag in broad-brush style with paint-like splatters.  The second panel fabric is composed of 8 squares with close-up portraits of the Statue of Liberty in many different colors, which are used to create both multicolored bands above and below the flag.  Finally, top and bottom strips of another Patriots’ fabric featuring white stars in the same painted style as the flag panel give closure to the design.  A magnificent solid blue from the Kona Cotton series serves as background for it all.  The quilt is framed by a narrow binding in dark red, and for the backing a light blue tiny grid pattern is used.

Guess what we have for you today!  A free sewing pattern for a marvelous sewing project that might transport you to fantasy lands!  Well, at least that was our impression when we first saw the Timeless Treasures panel fabric used for this colorful quilt 🙂  There is something very unicorn-like in the astoundingly Painted Horse that gives name to this design, something that points to fairy tale dreams and other feats of the imagination.  Isn’t it just wonderful that clever textile design can take you so far away? The dark background in black, with a hint of the Northern Lights above and the reflection of colors on the water splash covering the hoofs, is the perfect setting for the horse to stand out. This gorgeous fabric was designed by the very talented Chong-A-Hwang.

We’ve included 2 versions the finished quilt, which measures about 105cm x 151cm.  As you can see, the quilt design is pretty simple, and you do not need to be a skilled nor experienced sewing enthusiast in order to give it a try.  However, the final result looks absolutely gorgeous!  The panel is framed by a beautiful and vibrant fabric, with colorful spots in the Aurora Borealis/Rainbow palette used for the horse’s background.  A strip of black seems to divide this main frame, and two corner star blocks with some triangular “flying geese” seem to be cut out of it so that the fabric underneath shows.  (Of course, this is just a trick, you will have to create a few blocks with triangles and squares to obtain such a visual effect!)
