Soon it will be Easter, so we decided to decorate our desktops for that upcoming holiday. And we found some super kawaii free wallpapers we want to share with you. Hello Kitty and Rilakkuma are dressed up as bunnies, but there are also other cute Japanese characters. Click on the pictures below to download the wallpapers.
On Sunday 72,000 people participated in the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2013 through Hong Kong. One of them was Rilakkuma! To be honest, we did not expect to see him there as he is such a lazy bear and you have to be in very good shape to run a marathon. But in the end we were right, the lazy bear rather posed for pictures and TV cameras than focusing on the marathon. He is a lazy bear after all!
There were lots of people in funny costumes participating in the marathon, but of course Rilakkuma was the most popular character in the spotlight.

This week we had a big Dim Sum lunch with the whole team, as there were three reasons to celebrate:
1. Chinese New Year. The big celebrations to welcome the new year are already over, but as we were so busy packing and sending orders after the big CNY holiday, we decided to postpone our CNY lunch to this week.
2. Our new team member Habib. He started already a couple of weeks ago and supports our packing team. So now our packing ladies finally have a man on their side.
3. Our new team member Kitty. She is our new customer service manager, as our current customer service fairy Gabi will be a mother soon.
As always we ordered tons of yummy things and returned will full bellies to the office. We also took a funny video while we were waiting for the food, check it out to see our whole team.

The table is full of delicious food.

Everybody is happy to start eating

Easter is quite early this, so it was about time that we put our Easter category online. In there you’ll find lots of cute things with bunnies, chicks and lambs, but also many products for spring with ladybugs and flowers. Don’t forget that shipping from our shop takes between 5 and 15 business days, so better order everything you need for Easter right away.

You find our Easter category in the menu on the left side
Last week was super busy, because we had a big Chinese New Year holiday until Wednesday. On Thursday and Friday we tried to catch up packing and sending over 1,000 orders that came in during the holiday. Still we took the time to celebrate Bianca’s birthday with a chocolate cake topped and filled with lots of marshmallows and meringues. It was the perfect sugar rush for all of us on a fast-paced day, everybody was in heaven while eating it.
Happy Birthday, Bianca!

Look how happy she is about the cake! It is Biancas birthday

We got her this chocolate marshmallow cake

The modes4u team looked a bit tired as it was a super busy day. After the cake everybody was wide awake and happy on a sugar rush
A dream in pink. Even though the Chinese New Year celebrations are already over, there are still lots of colourful exhibitions going on in Hong Kong. In the shopping mall Langham Place we saw a very romantic one. As Valentine’s Day and Chinese New Year were really close this year this installation combines both celebrations. The pink Chinese peach blossoms, peacock couples and hearts have a traditional touch, but can also be seen in the context of love. It’s no surprise that lots of couples got their pictures taken in front of the different installations.
We think the exhibition is super kawaii. Doesn’t it fit perfectly to our shop?

This huge peacock couple is the centre of the exhibition

A pretty peacock with Chinese girls and a pinwheel, which brings good luck

The beautiful flower heart is especially popular with girls

A more traditional Chinese scene

For this cute couple it is hearts all around

Also the entrance of the mall is decorated in pink

We promised more and here it comes. The exhibition Chocolate Trail 2013 in the Hong Kong shopping mall Harbour City is so impressive that we took too many pictures for just one blog post. So here are more pics of the incredible objects which look like chocolate. The promotion’s theme is “Chocolate Mansion”, which is why there are so many pieces of furniture and home decor in a chocolate disguise. Do you have a favourite item?
If you want to see more pictures, check out part 1 of our Chocolate Trail visit.

This week we celebrated another birthday at the office. Gabi did not just get a really big Tiramisu cake, but also colourful cookies spelling ‘Happy Birthday’. Part of the modes4u team is visiting a trade show in Japan at the moment, so there was even more food to enjoy for the rest of us. Everybody got a really big piece of the creamy cake and a cookie as well. Is there any better way to spend your lunch break?
Happy Birthday Gabi.

It is Gabis Birthday – we celebrate with cake and cookies

Smiles all around, everybody is looking forward to eating the cake
The cute rubber duck character B.Duck is from Hong Kong and therefore quite present here. There are quite a few shops and products that you can buy. But as all the shopping malls are currently coming up with special promotions for Chinese New Year, we spotted two special exhibitions revolving around the cute duck.
In the district Causeway Bay we saw an installation with two ducks in traditional costumes for Chinese New Year. It looked really cool. We like it when CNY promotions include lots of the traditional Chinese symbols which are important for that holiday. In the picture we took you see the ducks holding golden ingots (gold nuggets which represent money), mandarins and lots of red.
The shopping mall The One in the district Tsim Sha Tsui just started their The One x B.Duck exhibition with a couple of kawaii photo opportunities. It’s all about candy, so you’ll see B.Duck in the candy shop with donuts, lollies and chocolates.

Currently the malls in Hong Kong are outdoing each other when it comes to creative installations. Again we found an incredible promotion we have to share with you. The shopping mall Harbour City started their Chocolate Trail 2013 which will be running until the end of February. There are lots of incredible chocolate items on a really long trail that leads through large parts of the mall. Unfortunately none of those things are made from real chocolate, but boy, they sure do look amazingly real and super delicious. Of course you can also buy exquisite chocolates on special booths.
We took so many pictures that we will divide this post into two parts. Next week you’ll get to see more chocolate items from the Chocolate Trail 2013.
