Most of our readers are well aware that we at modes4u are art lovers, and so you will not be surprised to read about our wholehearted enthusiasm when recently receiving our first set of fabrics from a new European provider, Liberty Fabrics from Liberty London. Yes, that’s right: the luxury emporium funded by Arthur Lasenby Liberty in 1875, that today keeps selling all kinds of artsy home and fashion items from its heritage Tudor department store in Regent Street!
The legendary shop was a huge success since its very beginning, involving great names from the Arts & Crafts movement like W. Morris. It exerted a great influence in dress and interior design throughout the 20th century, e.g. in Italy, the Art Nouveau period is often called “Stile Liberty”! In the 1920s, Liberty started selling their own fabrics with miniature floral, paisley and abstract motifs that have become true icons of British textile design, and are known since then as ‘Liberty fabrics’. With such a long and successful history, it comes as no surprise that the Liberty print archive boasts more than 40,000 prints!
Thus, we are naturally most proud and happy to have Liberty Fabrics’ designs in our shop, and we look forward to a lasting and fruitful collaboration, so that our customers and ourselves enjoy first hand their truly iconic textile patterns! Take a look at the images included below for a few samples of their beloved fabrics, and let us know which you like best!
